A question with a not so obvious answer. First of all because it’s highly subjective and contextual. It’s a matter of mood, human relations and negotiation abilities. Secondly, there are many methods that can help, but none of them is perfect for every imaginable situation. So, it helps to know them all and try to adapt a good method to a not so perfect situation.

It helps to think about this before hand, and also try to calculate a minimum and maximum that will give you the best results when negotiating your fee. Track your time and track your money and allow yourself some room for error. do a bit of research and see what the market dictates and learn about cost-based or activity-based methods.
